Well here's a bit more, check out an excerpt from her story.
In the early 1990s—not far from my hometown—Celebration, Florida, was built in the New Urbanism planning style to be a utopian walkable community. Homes, businesses, restaurants, and schools sprang up out of Kissimmee pasturelands in a colorful fusion of Colonial, Classical, and Victorian architectural styles. At Christmas, soap-bubble “snow” would rain down on tourists and residents strolling the downtown Main Street. I had often thought it would be fun to live in such a beautiful place.
Yet, here I was, in Norfolk, Virginia, turning onto the aptly named Pleasant Avenue, experiencing a moment of déjà vu. We were passing shops and homes painted in bright pastel colors—modeled after various architectural styles. I realized I was clutching Eric’s hand—which normally rested on the gearshift knob—as I leaned forward drinking in the sights. I didn’t know such a place existed outside of Florida, let alone in the little-known-to-me area of Hampton Roads. This was even better than Celebration. It was Celebration-on-the-Beach, and I loved the beach.
